Green Hosting

Global internet use generates the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions as all of the world’s air traffic. And this figure is expected to double by 2025.
So we created our green hosting packages to ensure that the energy your site uses is clean, green, and most importantly, carbon negative.

Before you go...

We don’t mean to brag, but our monthly newsletters are pretty damn good. They’re filled with useful information and how to's to help you grow your business. So do the smart thing, sign up below to get them in your inbox.

No spam, we promise!

As well as our secure data centres being run on 100% renewable energy, we also plant trees every month through our partnership with Tree-Nation.

We plant enough trees each month to ensure that your site is always in the black, or should that be green, when it comes to your websites carbon emissions.

FAQ’s

How are my trees planted?

We have a partnership with Tree-Nation who plant trees across the globe in a range of tree planting initiatives. You can find out more about their projects here.

Are there any hidden extras?

Absolutely not. We don’t believe in sucking you in with a super low price, only to hit you with lots of added costs to get the hosting plan you really need.

How long is my hosting contract?

12 months, paid for on a monthly basis.

Why do I need technical maintenance for my site?

Technical maintenance covers monitoring and responding to hacks, system failures, traffic spikes and more. It also covers managing your system resources, ensuring there’s enough processing power to run your site, enough storage space to save it, and keeping it up to date and functional.

Outsourced technical maintenance is a great option if you’re either not very tech-savvy, or you don’t have the time it takes to regularly check on your site and address issues whenever they arise, which could be as frequently as several times a day, depending on your site’s size and the amount of traffic it gets.

What's the difference between emergency assistance & tech support?

Emergency support is being on hand if your site goes down or has been hacked. We will help to get your site back up and running and secure. We will also assist you if any of your hosting tools aren’t working as they should be.

Technical support covers things such as setting custom DNS settings, setting up email accounts in your hosting area, fixing bugs on your site that are related to issues with your hosting and other hosting related technical issues that aren’t of an emergency nature.

What is Cloudflare CDN?

A content delivery network (CDN) is a geographically distributed network of servers that work together to provide fast delivery of your website content to the end-user. In turn creating a better user experience on your site.

A fast site also keeps the SEO gods happy AND a CDN reduces the distance data has to travel, in turn reducing the carbon footprint of the data transfer.

A CDN can also help protect websites against some common malicious attacks.

Cloudflare is the name of the CDN partner we work with and they have one of the world’s largest content delivery networks.

What is SuperCacher / Memcached?

Caching is a process where hardware or software stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster.

Our SuperCacher service is a combination of both NGINX Direct Delivery & Dynamic caching, which increases the number of hits your site can handle seamlessly and dramatically boosts your website’s loading speed.

Memcached is an object caching mechanism. It massively improves the loading speed of dynamic content that can’t be served by the Dynamic Caching (checkout pages, dashboards and backends, etc).

Tests have shown that a website using NGINX Direct Delivery and Dynamic caching with Memcached can handle 100 times more hits than a regular website.

Do you offer free domains?

You get a free domain on our Almighty Forest plan.

Do I have to change my domain if I move hosts?

Nope! You can either transfer your current domain to us, or you can keep it where it is and update the DNS records so that they point your domain to your site on our hosting servers.

How many email addresses are included?

There are no caps on the number of email addresses you can have.

However, each email account is capped to a maximum of 1GB and as part of your standard plan you have 10GB of total space.

Can you transfer my site for me?

Yes, we offer a free site transfer service for all new hosting plans.

We do not offer an email transfer service. If you have emails with a previous hosting provider that need to be moved we will give you the instructions for this transfer or our IT partner can action this for you.

What is an SSL certificate?

An SSL certificate verifies the owner of a website and encrypts website traffic with SSL/TLS.

A website needs an SSL certificate in order to keep user data secure, verify ownership of the website, prevent attackers from creating a fake version of the site, and gain user trust.

It’s also the thing that gives your website the padlock symbol in the URL bar.

Without an SSL certificate, access to your website can be blocked by certain browsers and internet providers.

What is Uptime?

Uptime is the amount of time your site is online and available to visitors.
